Mancunianity and Mancunianity Flows

About the project

Discover the ideas behind Mancunianity Flows, a River Irwell project connecting researched history, lived experience, music and place.

Mancunianity and Mancunianity Flows

Mancunianity is the wider creative identity: stories, journeys and cultural connections across Manchester and Salford. Mancunianity Flows is the current project, centred on the River Irwell and a co-created public walking experience.

Seeing the web, hearing its voices

The project considers Manchester and Salford through industrialisation, transport, labour, migration, ecology and memory. It brings researched history into conversation with lived experience rather than treating either one as the whole story.

Faucher helps us see the industrial web from above.

MacColl gives life inside that web a voice.

The Weavers reveal what the web became, how it was lived, and what Manchester and Salford might become next.

A cultural stimulus

Ewan MacColl’s Dirty Old Town is one cultural stimulus for thinking about place, industrial landscape and public memory. This website does not reproduce or paraphrase the song’s lyrics.
